This article examines the process of the slave trade on the territory of the North-Western Caucasus in the 20s of the XIX century, which was a specific way of economy among the mountaineers of the North Caucasus. By engaging in horsemanship and the slave trade, you could "earn" a fortune, since "live goods" were in great demand in the Ottoman Empire and other Eastern countries. On the basis of the material identified by the author in the State archive of the Krasnodar territory, the fates of some captives(both Russians and Adygs, Nogais, Tatars, and others) who were once captured by the mountaineers, and later fled to Russian territory for protection are considered. |
