| Rezumat | ||||||
The article shows how the love story of Troilus and Cressida, which had received a rich tradition by the time of Shakespeare, changes its character in Shakespeare’s drama “Troilus and Cressida”. The interpretation of the theme in the drama changes due to the inclusion of the story of lovers into the epic of the Trojan War. Shakespeare extensively uses Homeric motifs in drama. However, Homeric tradition undergoes a significant transformation in Shakespeare’s drama which provokes the legendary war degenerating. The theme of lovers eventually acquires a philosophical sound and becomes the basis for the condemnation of war as a social phenomenon. |
