Rezumat

At the end of 2009, public roads in Romania totalled almost 82.000 km, and railway lines for public use, totalling about 10,800 kilometres, according to the National Statistics Institute. Paved or asphalt surface is much higher, these fi gures do not take into account local streets, alleys and parking lots. Streets, buildings, walkways, planted areas change the balance between the quantity of water from rainfall and infi ltrated water. Water from rainfall, not considered to be a source of pollution has been identifi ed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of USA as the main cause of problems relating to water quality, because it carries a large amount of pollutants directly into river networks. Have been developed alternative approaches with low impact on the environment (LID) to control the adverse effect of water pollution. An approach with low impact on the environment is using eco paving in urban planning and beyond. This paper examines by prospective studies the types of ecological paving, their applications, and environmental benefi ts of using paving. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of using ecological methods in urban landscape planning.
