The role of Chernivtsi National University Botanic garden to the conservation of fl oristic diversity of Bukovina was shown and traced the historical aspects of this activity. The taxonomic analysis of a collection of rare species was presented. According to the tasks of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, was started creating the fi eld banks of 8 species listed in the 3-rd Red Data Book of Ukraine edition, including 2 nominated the missing in nature status (Dianthus gratianopolitanus Vill., Primula farinosa L.) and regionally rare species - Iris brandzae Prodan.
