This article examines the system of diaspora typology and criteria for their selection, the main trends associated with the formation and development of diasporas. The study of this problem is important from the point of view of understanding of political processes taking place in multinational states (which include Moldova). It is emphasized that diasporas have a large internal potential that can influence both the political and economic processes within the country of residence, as well as interstate relations.
