Soil borne plant pathogens can significantly reduce crop yield, causing important economic losses in crop production. Soil borne pathogens are difficult to control, since they can survive in soil for many years in the absence of host plants. In the present research, we show the results of the detection and identification of plant pathogens in soil by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). This work shows that the molecular-based methods can be readily used for pathogen detection and identification in soil. This research can shed light on the correlation of soil-borne pathogens and plant diseases, as well as help to make conclusions about soil contamination with certain pathogens and make decisions favoring planting certain crops or varieties. |
