The employment of structural sintered materials in the automotive industry is increasing, given the increasing of the mechanical properties of Powder Metallurgy (PM) products and especially considering the combination of the tribological properties which can be achieved. In this paper presents the tribological behavior of sintered steels developed through a new process called gascarbusintering (GCS), consisting of carburizing in methane gas (CH4) of a set of iron-based powder compacts followed by sintering. Powder metallurgy (PM) technique offers progress of new material processing for applications requiring various combinations of properties. The influence of compaction pressure and dwell time at the carburizing temperature on the tribological properties of steels processed by GCS is investigated. To determine the wear behavior a “ball on disk” tribometer was used. |
