In the nineteenth century in Bessarabia are a series of metamorphoses in the tastes, morals, representations, visions, models existing in the everyday and monden Bessarabian nobility. Process that targeted women as well. First of all, there is an increase in their role in political, social, economic and cultural life, which has also led to a change in the attitude of the members of society (especially men) towards them. The nobel women, with a domestic education, perceived at the beginning of Tsarist domination as a way of enriching or establishing relations of kinship with important persons in the state, are gradually enrolled in studies in educational institutions in Bessarabia or Odessa and St. Petersburg, are involved in the social, economic and political life of the region. These were manifested through the charity actions (the opening of hospitals and schools, the activity from the „Red Cross” Charity Society), their literary works, the preservation of the Romanian values and culture in their families, but also becuase they were good administrators of the estates they owned. |
