The impact of the implementation of Basel III on the stability of the banking sector in the European Union has a gradual importance. The full implementation of the Basel III Accord is essential for the consolidation of the financial system worldwide, and in particular the European one, subject to strict deadlines. Implementation responsibility falls not only to regulatory bodies, but extends to specialist of risk managers and, implicitly, to auditing, which has a key role in the independent and disciplined review of management efforts. Taking into account the fact that the Republic of Moldova has to implement the commitments assumed by the Moldova - EU Association Agreement on Financial Services, the National Bank of Moldova has approved the Basel III Implementation Strategy. The strategy outlined describes how the European Union's legislative package will be transposed and implemented between 2016-2020. Thus, the research aims to study EU practices on the impact of Basel III implementation on the banking sector and lesson learning for the Republic of Moldova.
