Rezumat

The inventory of old industrial storages was made for the determination of toxic substances in republic of Moldova. The large spectrum of substances was evaluated from different industrial companies. The study was based mainly on the waste analysis, which remained in the storages, and of the surroundings of the contaminated sites. The analytical measurements included gas chromatography (GC) and GC coupled with mass spectrometry (MS) methods for organic compounds and atomic absorption spectrometry for the heavy metals identification and quantification. The large spectrum of volatile and non volatile toxic organic substances and heavy metals was determined at several enterprises and old storages. As a result of the inventory project, it was determined that the largest quantities of industrial waste and expired chemicals are accumulated in industrial equipment engineering companies founded during the Soviet period. Wastes are represented by olis, plastics, adhesives, acids, salts, reactive chemicals, electroplating waste, and sediment resulting from the galvanizing process, which is about 400 tons of expired obsolete industrial chemicals. Wastes were grouped in four groups: waste with toxic substances; waste with low level of toxic substances; old chemicals from laboratory of technological processes; inert wastes. Toxic hazardous waste can be detoxified or treated by physical, chemical, biological and thermal methods. For polluted soils the bioremediation technologies and the creation of fully barriers limiting migration of toxins into the environment can be recommended. Incineration or paralysis can be recommended for treatment of waste materials: rubber, resin, plastics, and adhesives. Laboratory chemical waste that is in good condition can be reused after processing by chemical and physicochemical methods.
