The letters between vice-governor Major-General of Kyiv I. Kostyurin and the Moldovan ruler M. Gika are published for the fi rst time. They include information about the construction of the fortress of St. Elizabeth by the Russian authorities. On the one hand, it shows the legality of the building in according to the provisions of the Belgrade Peace Treaty of 1739. On the other hand, it claims to the construction of the fortress by the Crimean Khan Arslan-Giray. |
