Active learning is a technique that can be thought of as a cognitive involvement of the minds of students through externally stimulated thinking and physical actions. Active learning changes the emphasis from the teacher and the transmission of the course content to the student and the active engagement of the material. Through active learning techniques and modeling by the teacher, students have given up their traditional role of passive receptors and learn and practice how to understand knowledge and skills and use them significantly. Active learning involves offering students opportunities to talk meaningfully, write, read and reflect on the content, ideas, problems and concerns of an academic subject.
