Starting from the necessity of a history of translations in Romanian, aiming at recognizing translation as an integral part of the Romanian language and culture heritage and its dialogue dimension, we propose this work as a possible future sequence of such a history. We stopped on a key book in the history of the novel in general, and in the history of French literature in particular, namely the novel Madame Bovary - moeurs the province by Gustave Flaubert. We will first analyse the time gap between the publication of the original text and publication of the first fragmentary translations, comparing this situation to that of translations of other important works of literary French heritage but also with the translation of successful works in their own time, but minor today. We will identify the translators of this work and the context in which they published either fragmentary translations or integrated in periodicals or volume. We will also deal with publishers having as specificity the publication of foreign works, adapted or translated for the Romanian public. We will restore the profile and the position of each translator, his motivations, as they appear (if necessary) in the para-textual device, which will be part of our analysis. |
