The article deals with the distribution of basic units of morphology in terms of expression and content with the fixation of the existing relations between these units, both horizontally (one one plane) and vertically with the correlation between planes (two-plane analysis). One plane units in morphology are morph, allomorph, grammatical meaning, and semantic distinctive feature; two planes – the morpheme and the word (represented by the grammatical form). Morph and allomorph belong to the plane of expression, and the grammatical meaning and the semantic distinctive feature ‒ to the content plane. Two-plane units represent the correlation between units of the two planes: expression and content. The morpheme is the correlation between morph (the plane of expression) and grammatical meaning (content plane). The grammatical form represents the correlation between a combination of morphs (the plane of expression) and a cumulative grammatical meaning (content plane). |
