World War II led to huge losses and unprecedented destruction caused by military action and occupation after the war. 1946, the year after the war, is often associated with the notion of - Famine ( 1946-1947). It started exactly in July 1946 and peaked in February and August 1947, and then its intensity gradually decreased. The most reliable estimates of the level of excess mortality that can be made today, is from 1 to 1.5 million deceased person (although the number is much higher, due to the fact that during many who hunger They died lacked identity documents, therefore could not be officially registered).
