The purpose of this article is to assess the particularities of human influenza epidemic process in Chisinau for the period 1992-2013, as factors that caused morbidity through this infection. The surveillance data from both routine and sentinel systems were subject to examination. It was found that over 20 years, in Chisinau there were five seasonal epidemics every 3-4 years. During the last two cycles the number of affected patients has been significantly reduced. The epidemic increase in the 2009-2010 season was caused by a new type of influenza virus A (H1N1), with new epidemic features: the record of the majority of cases during the period November-March, the only people affected were the ones unvaccinated with the flu shot and the recording of severe cases and even fatal ones. For the first time, the coverage rate of influenza vaccination of the Chisinau reached a 24.1% share, previously the range being 4-7%. From etiological aspect, until the occurrence of the disease caused by the new type of virus A (H1N1), the A (H3N2) virus mainly caused morbidity. |
