Chronic diffuse liver diseases incidence in Europe is about 6%. The most common are chronic hepatitis of viral etiology B and C (HBV and HCV). According to WHO data, in Europe the number of people infected with HCV estimates 8 million cases. HCV is involved in many extrahepatic conditions and at least one of these symptoms is present in 74% of cases. There is a close relationship, both anatomical and functional between the neuroendocrine system and immune system. Men with advanced liver disease develop a number of clinical and biochemical symptoms and syndromes as well as signs of hypogonadism and feminization. Because of the central role and importance of the liver for metabolism of estrogens and androgens during chronic diffuse liver diseases, liver itself plays a disturbing factor essential for normal work of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Altered liver affects hormonal metabolism (steroid hormones) and causes abnormal synthesis of steroidhormonebinding proteins with changed of sex hormones free fractions. There are different questions at different levels that reach the mechanisms of occurrence and pathogenesis: the role of chronic liver pathology as the reason for the development of both hypothalamic-pituitary pathology as well as its role in inpairment and / or of the testicles. |
