The creation of the Opera Theatre in Chisinau in 1918, at the suggestion and with the support of George Enescu, constituted a great event in the history of the musical culture of Bessarabia. Leonard Dobronravov (Leon Donici- Dobronravov), who came from Petrograd to perform a vast activity as a director, actor, singer and pianist, got involved in the development of the Lyric Theatre in 1919. His modern visions regarding the staging of shows were supported and appreciated in Chisinau by both performers and the public. This is exemplified by the staging of the operas “Faust” by Ch. Gounod, “Traviata” by G. Verdi, etc. L. Dobronravov played an important role as aesthetics teacher in the Opera, Drama and Ballet Studio. He also imposed himself as an art critic, publishing numerous articles in the local press about cultural events but also sketches about many lyrical performers. |
