Purpose: assessment of physical development of children during puberty with particularities in overweight children. Materials and methods. The study included 2700 children, of whom 1397 boys (50.4%) and 1373 girls (49.6%) aged between 10 and 16 (mean age 12.9 years ± 1.8 years). The research included determining anthropometric indices (size, body weight, body mass index (BMI), percentage of body fat assessment by bioelectrical impedance, waist circumference, hip circumference, neck circumference and arm circumference). Excess body weight was found at children with BMI greater than the 85th percentile by age and sex. Results. The evaluation and analysis of physical development indicators of children showed, that 117 children (4.2%) were underweight, and 434 children (15.6%) were overweight. 76 children were obese (2.7%), with a predominance of boys and on urban children. We noticed, that 80,4% of overweight children had high percentage of body fat. Children with increased body mass have higher values of waist circumference (13.2 cm boys and 10,6 cm girls compared with the average per group), hip circumference (11.7 cm boys and 11.4 cm girls), neck circumference ( 2.8 cm boys and 2.3 am girls) and arm circumference (3.7 cm boys and 4.2 cm girls). Conclusions. All children with malnutrition and overweight need medical supervision. Such indicators as the waist, hip, neck and arm circumferences are easily determined and can be used together with BMI to determine overweight in children. |
