France was built on the territory of the kingdom of France, when Philippe Auguste declared himself as “King of France”, the language legally from 1539, edited by Villers Cotterêts was organized despite of the feudal regionalisms and dialects. This linguistic and identity imaginary was renovated during the Revolution and persists until (cf. Article of the Constitution: “The Language of the Republic […]). The French language is the fundamental element of the personality and the heritage of France. It leads to controversies against the Convention of regional and minority languages approved in 1992 by the European Union and signed in 1999 only by France but never ratified by France and the attacks against the usage of regional languages and elected bodies. Despite the imaginary of identity monolingualism which was built and developed in France, we know that every language has a plural character: whether it is about language variations (registers, discursive styles, oral/written difference, etc.), or it is about its varieties (idiolects, technolects, pronunciations and regional vocabularies, diachronic residues, synchronic borrowings, etc.). The same matter is with the identity. Even with a “card of identity” that fixes the origin, we don’t have anything. The identity, as language, is plural. It is shown by many foreign writers that are writing their literary works and interviews into other languages than their primary one (mother tongue). These deconstructions of linguistic and identity imaginary will represent the object of the given contribution.
