The profile of socio-economic development of the Republic of Moldova in recent years can be characterized by concentration trends in economic growth in different regions of the country. Thus, compared to other neighboring countries, Moldova is distinguished by a very strong economic polarization, so that about half of its gross domestic product is made in the capital, which focuses only a quarter of the population. The other regions of the country have a lower economic activity. A specific position is occupied by the Southern Region which has the less developed industrial potential of Moldova. Holding approximately 15% of Moldova's population, Southern Region produces only about 4% of industrial production. |
