Mendiants et orgueilleux (published in 1955) is undoubtedly the magnum opus of Albert Cossery, it explains his conception of Intellectual. In this novel, Albert Cossery expressed his rejection of the traditional classification of intellectuals (Committed intellectual/resigned, progressive/reactionary, etc.) and propose a new classification: Modern and cooperative intellectual/Anti-modern and non-cooperative Intellectual.
