Public archaeology is a relatively young scientifi c discipline which appeared and developed in the western countries starting with the 60-ies and 70-ies of the 20th century in the context of an increased concern in the protection of archaeological heritage and in the context of empowered social groups and local communities. This study represents an introduction in the public archaeology of the Republic of Moldova, whose main concern is the protection of the archeological heritage. It has in its focus the heritage complex Orheiul Vechi, which is an illustrative case of how public archaeology functions in Republic of Moldova, and it analyzes a few issues like the representation of the heritage complex in the museum, press and in educational programs.

Публичная археология – относительно молодая научная дисциплина, которая появилась и развивалась в западных странах, начиная с 60-70 гг. XX столетия в контексте роста интереса к защите археологического наследия и в контексте утверждения социальных групп и местных сообществ. Данное исследование является введением в публичную археологию Республики Молдова, главное беспокойство которой – защита археологического наследия. В центре исследования находится музейный комплекс Орхеюл Векь, который является иллюстративным случаем того, как общественная археология функционирует в Республике Молдовы. Статья анализирует несколько проблем: изображение музейного комплекса в музее, в прессе и в образовательных программах.
