Each government, political regime as an exponent of immediate interests of the governance, seeks to ensure the largest posible social support for its surviving. The radicalist programs of society renovation, inactivity or the fear of profound changes leads to the fact that the most necesary reforms, the social and economic progress are delayed, thus the radicalism or the stagnation become premises to social protests and political instability. Throuhgout history many thinkers, scientists and statesmen theoreticaly and practicaly approached the problem of a stable and eficient government, of an ideal political sistem, of political stability. The political stability of a governance is a cornerstone of the political science. The ensurance of the political stability, seen from the perspective of contemporary political science, is based on the legitimacy of the political power, the safety and the efficiensy of the government structure, the constant norms and values of the political culture, the respect for democratic procedures and correctness in political relations. Fiecare guvernare, regim politic, ca exponent al intereselor imediate ale puterii urmăreste să asigure cel mai larg posibil sprijin social pentru existenţa sa. Programele radicaliste de renovare a societăţii ori inacţiunile, teama de schimbări profunde face ca reformele necesare, modificările, progresul social şi economic să întîrzie şi, astfel, radicalismul ori stagnarea se transformă în premise pentru tulburări sociale şi instabilitate politică. Pe parcursul istoriei, mai mulţi gînditori, savanţi şi oameni de stat au abordat sub aspect teoretic şi aplicativ problema guvernării stabile şi eficiente, a sistemului politic ideal, a stabilităţii politice. Problema stabilităţii politice a regimului este una dintre pietrele de temelie ale ştiinţelor politice. Asigurarea stabilităţii politice, văzută din prisma ştiinţelor politice contemporane, are ca fundament legitimitatea puterii politice, siguranţa, eficienţa structurilor de putere, normele şi valorile constante ale culturii politice, respectul pentru procedurile democratice, ordinea în relaţiile politice.
