Since the end of the twentieth century, due to the high frequency of apologies in the political world, the academic interest in the speech act has considerably grown. The article discusses the peculiarities of apologies issued by several political leaders from the Republic of Moldova. As the recognition of mistakes threatens the image of the person issuing an apology, politicians try to minimize their responsibility for the errors made. The study points out several ways through which the form of an apology is manipulated in order to minimize the responsibility of the guilty party.
