Fungal plant diseases need to be controlled to ensure the quality and abundance of food, feed, and fiber produced by growers around the world. The postharvest application of fungicides against fruits decay has been increasingly limited by the development of pathogen resistance to many fungicides and negative public perception regarding the safety of pesticides. Biological control of postharvest diseases has emerged as an effective alternative.
This article will describe the current status of research and application of biological controls, and future directions that might lead to the development of more diverse and effective biological controls for plant diseases. |
