Quality assurance in higher education is one of the biggest challenges in the educational field over the last decades. In the European Area of Higher Education, higher education is more strongly treated as a public responsibility. Nowadays, all higher education institutions should act as units responsible to the needs of society. In this context, it is very important for universities to have resources to achieve all major objectives, including preparation of the students for life as active citizens in a democratic society, and for future career and personal development, creation of advanced knowledge by stimulating research and innovation etc. At the same time all reforms and policies in higher education have to be linked with university autonomy and academic freedom, as essential European values related to higher education. All these ideas are promoted and developed in the main Bologna Process documents: conventions, declaration, and communiqués. |
