Rezumat

The article presents the results of a study focused on the estimation of greenhouse gas emissions from cement/clinker production in the Republic of Moldova during the 1988-2005 period, for being included in the national inventory of greenhouse gases in the frame of Second National Communication (SNC) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The methodologies used are based on the Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (IPCC, 1997) and Good Practice Guidance and Uncertainty Management in National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (IPCC, 2000). The obtained results revealed that during the 1988-2005, the CO2 and NOx emissions from cement/clinker production have reduced by 63% each, from 978,25 kt to 358,94 kt, respectively from 1,11 kt to 0,41 kt, while SO2 emissions from cement production has reduced by 67%, from 0.71 kt to 0.23 kt The significant fluctuations in the emission time-series is explained by a sharp decline in cement production during 1990-2000 period, and by growth in the construction market in recent years. The study has been realised with the financial support of the GEF and UNEP in the frame of the project “Republic of Moldova: Enabling Activities for the preparation of the SNC under the UNFCCC”.
