Objective. Identification of patients who need preventive interventions for risk reduction of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, and chronic renal failure in population served by a rural health center. Patients and Methods. Body mass index, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, serum creatinine, and albuminuria were estimated in 469 patients of the rural health centre. Results. Prevalence of patients with impaired glucose metabolism was 6,82% in the studied group. A tendency of body mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressure as well as total blood cholesterol growth depending on degree of glucose metabolism impairment was observed. No significant differences of serum creatinine concentrations depending on fasting blood glucose values were detected. A tendency of worsening microalbuminuria was observed depending on the degree of advancement of glucose metabolism impairment. Conclusions. Detection of substantial proportion of patients with impaired glucose metabolism arguments the need for more proactive screening for this abnormality in primary care sector. A tendency for aggregation of studied metabolic disturbances in the same groups of patients speaks in favor of the need of complex preventive interventions in these patients. |
