The aim of the study was to evaluate the particularities of pregnancy, delivery and neonatal period evolution in case of macrosomic fetuses. The study population included 356 pregnant women that delivered in Municipal Maternity Hospital № 2 during 2007 and were divided into two groups: group I (study group) included 178 women whose newborns had weight ≥ 4000 gr., group II (control group) included 178 women whose newborns had weight <4000 gr. According to a specifically developed paper, we selected and analyzed the survey data sheets, which included the age, size, weight, obstetrical-gynecological and somatic history of patients, uterine height, abdominal perimeter, gestational age, maternal and fetal consequences at birth and during neonatal period, size and weight of newborns, Apgar score. Data were analyzed according to statistics percentage method. The obtained results showed that macrosomia is frequently associated with abnormal uterine contractions, perineo/episiotomies, maternal tissues trauma at birth, caesarean section and hypotonic uterine bleeding. The incidence of fetal injury was 2.3 times greater for macrosomic fetuses and the rate of newborns with asphyxia and cerebral circulation disorders was 2.6 times higher in the study group versus control group. |
