Chvostek sign (CS) remains a mystery to modern medicine. It is the most sensitive sign of neuromuscular hyperexcitability, but the views on the clinic and neurophysiologic interpretation are not unanimous. Currently a lot of physicians don’t grant the sign the value that it deserves for clinical diagnosis, as this sign is often positive and in the healthy people. But it is clear that in the pathogenesis of this phenomenon are both included a very subtle neuro-humoral mechanisms (the involvement of calcium, magnesium and other ions, of parathormone (PTH), vitamin D3, calcitonin) and the formation of the central nervous system, such as cortex, subcortical nuclei, brain trunk, hypothalamus, mesolymbic systems. An important aspect: Chvostek sign requirs to be understood and by psycho-somatic approach, as it is a relevant indicator of chronic stress, neuro-vegetative and emotional disorders. If we take into account the mechanisms of emergence and contextual conditions, this clinical sign, otherwise easily investigated, can talk about important things of the concrete issue. |
