Rezumat | ||||||
The spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is one of the most frequent infectious complications in patients with hepatic cirrhosis, constituting a third from all bacterial infections of this group of patients. In the last years, the problem of evolving SBP in patients with hepatic cirrhosis was explained via the implication of free-radical reactions. The processes of lipid peroxidation are taking part at different stages of SBP pathogenesis; both at the level of intestine, where bacterial translocation takes place, and at the level of ascitic fluid. Changes in the markers of the oxidative state or of the natural defense system suggest a new therapeutic approach i.e. the adjuvant antioxidant therapy. |
