Johann Christian Bach, the youngest of the J. S. Bach’s sons was one of the most interesting and most complex musicians of the second half of the 18th century. He managed to get into the essence of the musical tendencies of his time. There have been discussions over the authorship of Concerto for viola and orchestra. The French viola player H. Cassadesus, a great promoter of early music, believes that the work was written in J. S. Bach’s
style. These discussions, however, do not diminish the musical value of the Concerto. Moreover, they acknowledge its utmost importance in the repertoire of the viola player. |
