Statistical aspects of isolated trauma in mandible fractures
Statistical studies on facial trauma, appreciate their share from 10 to 15% of all injuries. Because of its position in facial skeleton, the jaw’s form and function the mandible bone is more exposed than other bone in injuries of the face. Lower limit of age recorded was 15 years old and upper limit 76 years. The age group with the highest frequency was that of 21 years in 26 patients, representing 6.2% followed by 25 patients of 20 years representing 6%. From 1987 to 2010 the main cause of trauma was assault about 56.7%, followed by falls - 36.6%, and the third road accidents about 3%. From the patients who came in first 24 hours after getting the trauma 8.3% of them were drunk. The most commonly (70.9%) place of fracture is the angle of the jaw, because of the anatomically peculiarities. Orthopedic treatment has been used in 88.4% of cases and the surgical in 15.3% cases. Sometimes they are combined. |
