Isolated Systolic Hypertension in the elderly from Republic of Moldova.
Epidemiological aspects and corellation with major geriatric syndromes.
There were evaluated 1867 elderly inhabitants from the central, south and north region of the country. Arterial hypertension was diagnosed in 646 patients. Among them, 420 persons aged 65-95 years had the diagnose of Isolated Systolic Hypertension(ISH). The patients were divided into 2 groups(according to the Canadian classification of aging 1998): the Ist group-patients from 65-74 years old( first group of aging-young old) and the IInd group-75-95 years old( second group of aging- old and the third group- the oldest-old). The patients were evaluated according to the international criteria of Comprehensive geriatric Assessment, appoved by order Nr.619 from 07.09.2011 of Health Ministry.
The results of the study showed that the share of the arterial hypertension in patients older than 65 years was 34%, from which ISH was diagnosed in 65% elderly.
ISH grade II in the patients of 65-74 years old was diagnosed in 34,2% cases, but in the elderly over 75 years in 30,7%. ISH grade III in the elderly from the Ist group was encountered in 12,8% cases and in the IInd group in 12,6%. The medium and high cardiovascular risk predominates in both groups, with a greater frequency in the IInd group. A medium corelation has been established between the ISH grade III and very high cardiovacular risk(p<0,05). In both groups predominates the influence on the heart and retina. The share of major geriatric syndromes increases concomitant with aging and corelates with systolic values. |
