This article examines the issue of EU enlargement and the imigration in the
EU from the Eastern neighbourhood countries. Migration will remain a constituent
part of the European future and the EU member – states do not have the
right to ignore the potential of the talented and highly qualified migrants for
their economies.
In the heart of the EU the enlargement process is perceived as an alternative
for combating the threat of appearance of the instability centres, conflict situations
and spread of the illegal migration.
The difference in the level of life between the rich and poor states represents
one of the dominant causes of the mass labour migration. So, it is possible
to presume that this fact will stimulate the influx of immigrants in the EU. As
the result, the issue of the mass labour migration from other countries has become
one of the key – priorities of the EU’s political agenda.
Besides, the latest enlargements took place in a specific demographic context
that is caused by the European demographic decline. The scale of possible
migration as the consequence of the EU enlargement towards the East provokes
the most acute political discussion in the EU member – states. However, it is
important to highlight that such kind of fears has also been appearing during
the past enlargements, but proved to be groundless. |
