The article examines the issue of social cohesion and in particular the indicators of self-identifi cation and citizens’ trust in social institutions. The categorical apparatus is represented by the notions: social cohesion, social integration, social inclusion / exclusion, solidarity, trust. Most of the investigated subjects identifi ed fi rst of all with the communities located in close spaces (city, village), then with the communities further away (Republic of Moldova, European continent, planet Earth). The society trusts more the church followed by the Presidency and the mayor’s offi ce. It is mentioned that reducing the degree of corruption in society has a positive infl uence on increasing the public’s trust in social institutions. The conclusions and recommendations are based on the analysis of the empirical material.
