Our research is an attempt at analyzing the existing scientific research dealing with the irrational aspects of the human psyche and is offering the needed instruments for evaluating and enhancing the emotional intelligence through the development of communication competences. The need for developing the emotional intelligence in school students is a core precondition for their personality development, as well as their school and social adaptation. The development of communication competences in teenagers at the high-school level may diminish significantly the unfavorable effects of changes caused by transition to adolescence and the emergence of depressive and anxious states, and may prevent the emergence of complexes and the isolation from the group phenomenon. Moreover, improved communication competences will result in a better integration in the group of peers and in more efficient interpersonal relations among teenagers. The outcomes of the present research support the opinions that the development of communication competences partially correlates with emotional intelligence.
