Background: Cytokines are polypeptides that affect long-term development events such as proliferation, differentiation, and cell survival, as well as short-term events as modulation of synaptic activity and inflammatory responses.
The goal of the study was to examine the implication of inflammatory cytokines in the evolution of the infection and birth asphyxia in the neonate.
Material and methods. Out of a number of 112 of newborns, 39 of them have suffered asphyxia at birth, and 63 babies - maternal-foetal infection, we studied the inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNFα , IL -1β and IL-8).
Results: The clinical and the practical data have shown that in the early neonatal period it has evolved the most difficult in premature newborns who suffered severe asphyxia at birth, followed by those with infection. The level of lactat, being a couple of times higher in study groups in comparison with the standard level is presented as a marker of hypoxia / hypo-perfusion tissue, including SNC.
Conclusions: It was determined that the high level of IL-1β may serve as index which characterizes mostly the hypoxic statuses, regardless of cases of infection, while IL-6 showed high levels in both maternal-foetal infections as well as in severe asphyxia, a situation which is explained by the fact that the amount of the diagnosed value of IL-6 may be affected by the physiological severe status of the disease and risk index. |
