Assisted reproductive technology (ART): are all the treatments or the procedures that include the in vitro processing
of human oocytes, sperm or embryos for the purpose of achieving the pregnancy. The implementation of ART methods
in all countries of the world have led to appearance of different ethical problems.
The article defi nes the ethical and the legal aspects of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) that are present in
various countries of the world. It is provided a review of international legal practices and the position of various religions
in the area of assisted reproduction. The main ethical issues that are discussed in this article: donation of gamete
and embryos, freezing of reproductive cells and embryos, surrogacy and preimplantation genetic diagnosis.
In Republic of Moldova, the IVF method it is successfully practiced for the lastl5 years. However, underdeveloped
legal and regulatory frameworks create the diffi cultness in the effective use of this method. Considering the positive and
negative experiences of the other countries, there is a need to develop and to approve legislatively, the regulations that
are governing the activities of the assisted reproduction centers in our country. |
