After the re-unification of 1918, in an attempt to integrate the new territories in the administrative structure of Romania, the Romanian authorities faced numerous social and cultural problems. One of them was related to the integration of national minorities in Romanian society. The Gagauzians were a minority of Turkish ethnicity located mostly on the territory of Bessarabia, which was foreign to the Romanian language and culture, being also one of the ethnic groups with the lowest literacy rate. Romanian authorities have taken a series of actions to speed up the integration of Gagauz into Romanian society. |
