In recent decades, the idea of language neutrality has appeared to be deeply ideological in nature. It is provided for the methodology research, that is scientists cannot attempt to treat language itself as a homogenous entity beyond the group of speakers (typically understood as the ethnic group or the nation) for whom the language represents some policy-related concern. We consider English as a vehicle used to spread a hegemonic and ideological influence on beliefs and practices within English language education. To be concise, here we discuss neutrality only as one broad category that emerges in our close examination how the English language is everyday used today. In this paper, our main points are around three forms of neutrality: prescription, denotation, and uniformity. In particular, to our mind, that it is reasonable to consider language neutrality in terms of two dimensions: that of substance (neutrality regarding which language, what kind of neutrality, and for which group[s]?), and stance (neutrality according to whom and why?) |
