Background. Meconium ileus (MI) is one of the causes of neonatal intestinal obstruction, which is, in the case of late diagnosis, complicated by perforating peritonitis. This disease is caused by the extrinsic factor - the abnormality of the pancreas has a rare condition in newborns 1: 25000 children per year Objective of the study. The presentation of clinical-paraclinical features, diagnosis and treatment of meconium ileus complicated with meconium peritonitis Material and Methods. In the period 2016-2021 in the Institute of Mother and Child, Natalia Gheorghiu National Scientific-Practical Center for Pediatric Surgery, newborns’ surgery unit, 4 children with meconium peritonitis as a complication of meconium ileus, were diagnosed and surgically treated. We performed a retrospective analysis of the study group, evaluating the observation sheets. Results. We present the 4 clinical cases, characterized by similar clinical and imaging manifestations. Patients were surgically resolved. One newborn child with meconium peritonitis, associated with multiple birth defects and intrauterine infection, has died Conclusion. In the absence of early diagnosis, meconium ileus is complicated by meconium peritonitis. The diagnosis is confirmed by ultrasound imaging techniques, computer tomography with angiography. The surgical treatment is differentiated, adapted to each case. |
