The article treats the problem of the origin of the folklore of the calendar traditions, evoking at the same time some taxonomies of this category of folklore. Beginning with the 18th century, the folklore of calendar traditions became the object of study and of the reflections of several researchers, including D. Cantemir, A. Hasdeu, C. Negruzzi, V. Alecsandri and others, which contributed to the delimitation of calendar traditions as an important sphere of popular spiritual culture. The classifications developed over time have capitalized on the "ethnographic" dimension, which refers to the classification of calendar dates according to the four seasons (winter, spring, summer and autumn) and the "philological" one, which evokes the folklore genera and species, observed at the numerous and various holidays.
