Quantitative theories are based on the investigation of strategic diplomatic relationship,
being mainly concerned about the relations among major powers whilst the less significant actors
have secondary roles. Qualitative theories refer to the international economic relation which
concern as the middle as the peripheries of the world system in the form of distinct totalities less
differentiated in interior, the world conflict axis being explained through the binomial “hegemonic
center – exploited peripheries”. If theories based on the polarity research focus on the plenitude
and diversity of these connections, fundamental elaborations of the analyses of the major and
minor powers within the world system (being mainly determinist) neglect horizontal relations
being considered less into conflict, without neglecting the existence of a hegemonic power.
