Background. Frailty is the geriatric syndrome, characterized by decreased physiological reserve and body functions associated with age leading to an increase in vulnerability and a negative impact on health - loss of autonomy and death. Objective of the study. Multidimensional evaluation of patients in order to establish fragilty syndrome and determine the impact on quality of life. Material and Methods. The epidemiological study included 1158 patients (71.64 ± 0.1 years). The clinical, physical status, gait and balance, cognitive, psychological, nutritional, socio-economic status and quality of life were assessed. Fragilty was established by the Fried criteria. The results were analyzed in the software program Statistics 7. Results. The medical-psycho-social aspect of the fragility syndrome was determined. A decrease in functionality (20.43 ± 0.29), autonomy (10.23 ± 0.13), cognitive disorders (22.89%), emotional disorders (39,66%) and an unsatisfactory social and economic status (40.95%) were found in frail patients (27.20%). The most affected areas of quality of life in the frail elderly were pain (56.83 ± 1.91) and physical ability (55.29 ± 1.89). Conclusion. The results of the study argue the need for multidimensional assessment of fragility syndrome in order to develop measures for early detection of conditions that may induce the global decline with a negative impact on the quality of life of the elderly. |
