The standalone computer program is protectable under the copyright system, however, in some cases, it may benefi t from the legal protection aff orded by the patent for invention, as well as the provisions relating to combating infringements of trade secrets. It takes a good understanding of the particularities of protection to choose the best and safest protection strategy, which will lead the author/rightholder to the most effi cient use of his rights.
