The article approaches certain issues of regional hydronymy, focusing on the names of the left-bank tributaries of the river Prut. It also outlines the geometrical and geomorphologic characteristics of aquatic objects. On the basis of the toponymic field investigations and the cartographic works, we have established the limits of the researched hydronymic area. We have also analyzed the lexical and structuralderivational features of the hydronyms, highlighting the importance of hydronymic research for specialists in adjacent scientific fields (linguistics, geography, history, sociology, etc.).
