Rezumat

2020 is the year of hydrological extremes for the Dniester river basin. From minimal precipitations in winter to floods in June and again to droughts in summer - 2020 will stay in memory as a significant year for the basin and its population, being also substantially influenced by world pandemia. 2020 flood was one of the most devastating floods for the upper part of the Dniester river basin. Flash floods from Carpathians caused substantial damages to agricultural lands and settlements in Ukrainian part of the basin. In the middle and downstream part the flood effect was smaller, due to flood management actions and protection by hydrotechnical constructions. Present study is dedicated to short analysis of 2020 flood as well as to development and application of hydrodynamic modeling of the Dniester flood wave in the limits of the Republic of Moldova using modern software in order to show the efficiency of flood simulation for further flood management.
