In this article, satellite technologies and their opportunities to be used in livestock sector based on grasslands are discussed with some case studies. Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems are tools that can provide effectiveness in making inventory for sustainable livestock in grasslands. It provides more useful and economic opportunities compared to classical pasture assessment methods in determining effective grazing systems in animal production based on grasslands, determination of pasture areas, determination of grazing capacities and amount of biomass in pasture areas, classification of grasslands and monitoring animal movements in pasture areas. Studies with satellite data increase the accuracy of the results in determining land use types and plant patterns. In addition, the availability of the data of a region at any time depending on the previous plans makes the use of satellite technologies even more attractive. As a result of taking all these inventories necessary for livestock production and analyzing the data obtained in the past, these technologies and techniques will be advantageous both in terms of time and economically in order to make the necessary decisions in the realization of an effective pasture management. |
